Q: Can an employer group offer an HRA to employee’s to pay for their individual hsa or standard individual plan premiums? I know you can pay Medicare part A, B and LTC from HRA benefits, but I’m not clear on individual coverage. Also, has the IRS included Medicare part D ?
A: Yes, the inclusion of reimbursements for lower cost individual medical insurance is one of the most popular benefits of Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). There is little written about the treatment of Medicare Part D tax treatment so far, but it seems safe to presume that tax treatment will be the same as for other parts of Medicare.
